North Electrical Services (NES) is planning a major expansion of Scottish operations in a move expected to create nearly 200 jobs over the next five years.
The Moray-based firm has more than quadrupled its permanent workforce across operations in Elgin and Inverness to 60 since setting up in 2012, while it also provides work for about 40 contractors. NES now has the central belt and new sectors in its sights and is targeting turnover of up to £15million annually by around 2022, compared to a current figure of between £3million and £4million.
Managing director Kenny Duncan said: “There are still opportunities for us to grow in the north and north-east but we also feel we can pursue other areas, like the central belt, and other sectors such as energy and social housing.
“If it goes as we expect it to go over the next four to five years, we will quadruple the existing workforce and seek new projects.”
NES’s services include industrial and commercial electrical installation and maintenance, as well as control and instrumentation work, electric motor repairs and a variety of other projects at schools, offices, commercial premises, distilleries and fish processing plants.
The firm has taken on three administration staff, an estimator and four new apprentice electricians this year. It now has 15 apprentices on its books.
Inverness, Nairn, Badenoch and Strathspey MP Drew Hendry said: “NES is a great success story, growing from a small company to one with 60 employees and with ambitious plans to develop significantly in the next five years.
“The fact growth has been driven by a desire to create opportunities for young people … makes the achieved and planned progress even more commendable.”
