Bosses and staff at a 155-year-old Aberdeenshire company are celebrating success after the firm won an honour in prestigious awards at the first time of asking.
Inverurie-based Laings only joined Aberdeeen and Grampian Chamber of Commerce (AGCC) last year, yet took the top gong for people development at the 2017 Northern Star Business Awards.
The family-owned luxury kitchen, bathroom and bedroom retailer was presented with its accolade in front of about 500 guests at Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre.
Director Darren Walker said: “We are honoured to have been recognised for our commitment to people development. We are incredibly proud of our talented and loyal staff, some of whom have been with us for over 40 years.
“We strive to bring new people into our business on an annual basis through our trainee designer scheme, and aim to enrich our employees’ experience at work, as well as their skill sets through international training, external qualifications and ongoing professional development.”
Laings, which was named as the UK’s bathroom showroom of the year in industry awards earlier this year, was founded as a plumbing merchant in Inverurie in 1862.
Today, its showroom has more than 100 kitchen, bathroom and bedroom displays and products from Europe’s leading brands, including Villeroy & Boch, Victoria and Albert, Charles Yorke, Bagno Design, Mackintosh and Dall’Agnese.
