The chief executive of Marston’s has revealed it is on the lookout for more sites in the north and north-east as the brewing and pub giant announced record results that saw its revenue hit £1billion.
Ralph Findlay said the firm was seeking locations in both areas to add to its new establishments in Peterhead and Inverness as part of its growth strategy of up to three openings in Scotland each year.
Marston’s underlying revenue soared by 10% to £992million in the year to the end of September, compared to the previous 12 months, according to preliminary results released by the Wolverhampton-based company yesterday. Underlying pre-tax profits were also up 3% at £100million.
The Harbour Springs in Peterhead’s Buchan Way was among 19 pubs and bars launched by the firm across the UK during the year, taking its total UK estate to 1,568. A 38-bedroom lodge opened at the north-east site in October.
The company’s Three Witches pub restaurant and 40-bedroom lodge is due to open in the Slackbuie area of Inverness in February. Marston’s has invested around £60million over the past five years increasing the number of its Scottish outlets to 19.
Mr Findlay said the firm, which employs around 14,500 people, had achieved strong revenue growth and higher earnings, despite increasing employment and property costs.
He added: “While political and economic uncertainty is likely to continue, we remain confident that our proposition founded on providing great customer experiences, the very best service and value for money, leaves Marston’s positioned to deliver further growth in the year ahead.”
