The managing director of Aberdeen International Airport has hailed figures showing a seventh consecutive monthly rise in passenger numbers as “extremely encouraging”.
Almost 250,000 people travelled through the terminal in November, representing an increase of 4.9% on the same month last year.
Domestic and international travel increased by 7.2% and 12% respectively, boosted by strong demand for a number of services introduced earlier this year, including Ryanair’s direct flights to Malaga and Alicante and Flybe’s new Heathrow connection.
Poor weather during the month contributed to a 16.9% drop in helicopter traffic.
The airport’s managing director, Carol Benzie, said: “We have reported an increase in both domestic and international traffic for seven consecutive months, which is extremely encouraging.
“In addition to the new Ryanair services, our international traffic was boosted by Air France’s decision to reintroduce a third daily service to Paris. Whilst we are continuing to operate in what remains a challenging market, as highlighted by the helicopter traffic, the return of the third daily service is a clear sign of confidence starting to return.”
Ms Benzie said the airport was in a “strong position” going into 2018.
An 18.1% rise in international passenger numbers helped Edinburgh Airport achieve its busiest November on record. Overall figures were up 8.7% year-on-year, with more than 936,000 people using the airport.
Glasgow Airport also achieved record November figures, with a 2.5% rise from last year to a total of 682,800 passengers.
