One of the Highlands’ best-known hotels has changed hands after being put on the market for £8.75million.
The 175-room Hilton Coylumbridge, near Aviemore, is one of seven Hilton hotels around the UK bought by US-based private investment firm Starwood Capital Group, from fellow American company Park Hotels and Resorts, in a £135million deal.
Agents Christie & Co, which acted on behalf of the previous owners, said the “highly profitable” business had attracted interest from potential buyers in the UK and overseas, including investors from the Far East and US.
Built for £700,000, the hotel opened in 1965 as the winter sports industry was developing at the nearby Cairngorm ski area. At the time, it was one of Scotland’s largest hotels.
Set in a substantial estate, it has conference, leisure and function areas, as well as two indoor swimming pools, a soft play area and 18-hole crazy golf course.
Jeremy Jones, head of hotel brokerage at Christie & Co, said: “I am delighted that the Hilton Coylumbridge has found a new owner in Starwood Capital, a truly global hotel owner.
“Since opening to meet the demands of the Cairngorm ski area, the hotel has developed into one of the region’s most popular and consistently busy family resorts. In addition to the beauty of the region, the hotel’s own extensive facilities ensure that guests can equally be entertained indoors as outdoors. The sale process proved Scotland is a country with global investor appeal.”
Starwood’s new hotels total more than 1,300 rooms and include the Hilton Edinburgh Grosvenor.
