Peterhead Port Authority (PPA) last night named its next chief executive, saying commercial shipping veteran Simon Brebner would take on the job from June 11.
Mr Brebner, who is moving from Lytham St Annes to take up the reins from acting CEO John Wallace, has held senior roles in multiple ports around the world.
Most recently he was chief commercial officer for Abu Dhabi Terminals.
PPA convenor Mr Gavin Thain said: “With over 30 years commercial shipping experience, he will bring with him a deep understanding of stakeholder needs and business activity.”
Mr Wallace retired as CEO in 2016 but has been back at the helm on a temporary basis since November, when Ian Laidlaw quit the top job after less than 18 months in the post.
Announcing the new appointment, Mr Thain said it marked the end of a “long and thorough search nationwide” by the board.
Mr Wallace will stay on at the port until its £50million redevelopment is completed later this year.
The new CEO, who grew up in South Africa, said he was “simply thrilled” to have been appointed, adding he was attracted by the diversity involved in the role.
