Global Energy Group (GEG) is setting its sights on winning a bigger share of the subsea oil and gas fabrication market after expanding operations at Aberdeen harbour.
The Inverness-based company has added two workshops and equipment formerly used by drilling contractor Transocean to its existing facilities at the Nord Centre on York Place.
Following the move, which has increased fabrication space there by 108,000sq ft, the firm’s workforce at the site has grown by 25% to around 75, with workers transferring from another of its city locations. It has also provided Global with direct quayside access for load-out operations.
The company is constructing an exhaust tower for ConocoPhillips and Dave Masson, managing director of GEG’s south fabrication division, said it hoped to secure further contracts soon.
Mr Masson added: “We are pleased to have taken up around an additional 108,000sq ft of fabrication buildings.
“These facilities are a strategic move to provide us with further ability to support the growth in our subsea activities in the oil and gas industry, as it provides direct access to the Clipper Quay.”
He continued: “As an example, our current work on the exhaust tower contract could not have been completed and loaded out without us having these increased facilities.
“The expansion provides multiple fabrication shops located in one site for pipework, topsides fabrication and subsea project execution.”
Global has a number of facilities in Aberdeen as well as its operations in the Highlands, which include Nigg Energy Park.
