The UK’s largest annual fishing industry showcase is back in the north-east next week.
Skipper Expo International Aberdeen, which is now in its eighth year, attracts large numbers of exhibitors and visitors from all over the world.
With around 200 trade stands, including more than 30 new exhibitors from throughout Europe, the 2018 edition will feature the latest equipment and support services available to the industry.
Sharon Boyle, of event organiser Mara Media, said: “We have been overwhelmed by the amount of interest in the expo from both exhibitors and visitors.
“This is a pivotal time for the Scottish and UK fishing industries, and this is reflected by the strong exhibitor base and high number of first-time attendees.”
Sponsored by the Scottish Fishermen’s Federation, the expo takes place over two days – Friday and Saturday next week – and comes at a time when Brexit and its implications are making headlines.
It is also being held during a period of major investment by Scottish skippers in new vessels which the organisers say is reflected by a large number of shipyards and boatyards taking part.
Star attractions at the expo include the free industry night at the Douglas Hotel, on the Friday, where Mara Media will host a seafood buffet and dance for exhibitors and invited guests.
Another expo highlight will be the seafood tasting stand hosted by Box Pool Solutions. Chefs from Buchan Braes Hotel at Boddam, near Peterhead, will be working hard throughout the event at Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre to keep up a steady flow of Scottish fish and seafood tasters.
There will also be safety equipment displays, hosted by the RNLI, at 12.30pm on both days.
Such was the success of last year’s show and the level of demand this time that the start time for both days has been brought forward an hour to 9am.
Ms Boyle said: “This is very much the fishing industry’s expo and we are incredibly grateful for the support from all the exhibitors and visitors.”
