Two leading Aberdeen-based oil and gas service chain companies are competing head-to-head for the renewables honour in the 2018 Press and Journal Energy Voice Gold Awards.
FTSE 250 Index-listed Wood and crane services firm Sparrows Offshore Group are both in with a shout of taking the top prize for green-friendly firms helping to grow Scotland’s reputation for renewables.
Wood is a global leader in the delivery of project, engineering and technical services to energy and industrial markets.
It operates in more than 60 countries, employs about 55,000 people globally and has annual revenue of around £7.6 billion.
The company delivers servicies for the whole asset life cycle – from concept to decommissioning – across a broad range of industrial markets, including the upstream, midstream and downstream oil & gas, power & process, environment and infrastructure, clean energy, mining, nuclear, and general industrial sectors.
Sparrows, launched in Bath by the Sparrow family in 1946, supplies engineered products and services for a variety of industry applications.
Its technology and expertisie is widely used in safety critical areas of lifting and mechanical handling, cable and pipe lay, and fluid power.
With more than 1,650 employees and in excess of 40 years’ energy industry experience, Sparrows helps clients around the world boost the performance, reliability and safety of critical equipment and people.
Wood and Sparrows are both hoping to follow in the footsteps of Equinor, formerly Statoil, which scooped the renewables award last year in recognition for its Hywind Energy Park off the coast of Peterhead.
The annual Gold Awards, held in association with Aberdeen Standard Investments, are also an opportunity to celebrate business innovation.
Four firms have been shorlisted in this year’s innovation category, sponsored by Aberdeen-based engineering firm Balmoral Group.
Visual inspection specialist Air Control Entech, petrophysical modelling and mapping company Cognitive Geology, engineering firm Rig Deluge and Tendeka, with its PulseEight wireless completion technology, all have the credentials to win.
Only one of them will emerge triumphant when the Gold Awards reach their climax at the Marcliffe Hotel and Spa in Aberdeen on September 7.
There is just one overall innovation award this year.
Last year, Peterson was named sector innovation winner and a separate award for product innovation went to Enpro Subsea.
