Nominations for the 2019 edition of the north-east’s business “Oscars” – the Northern Star Business Awards – open today.

Now in their 16th year, the high-profile awards recognise companies around the region for exceptional accomplishments.

Organised by Aberdeen and Grampian Chamber of Commerce (AGCC) and now held in association with The Press and Journal (P&J), they highlight diversity and success across a range of sectors.

This year’s competition has 12 categories – going global, marketing magic, inspiration from innovation, inspiring futures, staff matter, customer first, making the difference, family business, rising star, student placement, eco hero and business of the year.

The closing date for nominations is Wednesday May 1, with the winners due to be unveiled at a lavish ceremony at new TECA (The Events Complex Aberdeen) venue on Thursday September 26.

More than 40 finalists joined about 600 guests at last year’s black-tie awards dinner.

AGCC head of membership Seona Shand said: “A big part of our role is leading the celebration of our city region as a great place to live, work, study, invest and do business.

“Companies of all sizes, from all sectors and across the length and breadth of this fantastic region are renowned for their innovation and entrepreneurial spirit.

“The Northern Star Business Awards provide a great stage to showcase and celebrate this.

“Nominating your company is the first step in the process. Competition for a finalist spot is always tough and the categories attract significant interest from across every sector of the business.

“Past winners have ranged from small local businesses to internationally renowned brands, and we would encourage all companies in the region with a great story to tell to consider putting themselves forward.”

P&J editor Alan McCabe added: “We’re delighted to be working with the team at AGCC to showcase the brightest and best in the north-east business community.

“This promises to be a pivotal year for the city and region – there’s so much to shout about – so we’re looking forward to celebrating some amazing successes and achievements.”
