Former Scottish Fishermen’s Federation (SFF) chief executive Bertie Armstrong has joined the management board at Aberdeen harbour as a non-executive director.
Mr Armstrong – a former Royal Navy commander – led the SFF for than 14 years before stepping down from the hotseat last August, making way for current CEO Elspeth Macdonald.
Aberdeen Harbour Board chairman Alistair Mackenzie said: “I am very pleased to welcome Bertie Armstrong to the board, and he joins us at a time of significant transformation for the business. Bertie brings with him a strong network of key connections and much experience in managing multiple stakeholder interfaces.
“His skills and experiences will complement those already on the board, as we push forward to the next exciting era for Aberdeen harbour.”
Mr Armstrong, 68, said: “The exciting harbour expansion at Nigg Bay is timed to make the most of the opportunity presented by current activity and, of course, the essential energy transition.
“I’m looking forward to playing my part in an increasingly successful, sustainable strategic asset for the north-east.”
Mr Armstrong became SFF CEO in April 2005, after a 33-year career in the Royal Navy. His new role will see him contributing his expertise to the management team behind the £350 million expansion of Aberdeen harbour.
