The Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre (AECC) will play host to the joint annual conference of the United Kingdom Continence Society (UKCS) and the Scottish Pelvic Floor Network (SPFN) in 2015.
The event is expected to attract around 300 experts to the region to take part in the scientific programme offering clinical education for all specialists promoting continence.
The meeting was secured through the support of local ambassador, Mohamed Abdel-Fattah. Doctor Abdel-Fattah, a Senior Lecturer at the University of Aberdeen, is based at the Aberdeen Maternity Hospital.
As well, VisitScotland awarded £3,000 to the convention centre through its £2million National Bid Fund, with match funding provided by VisitAberdeen.
Dr Abdel-Fattah, Chairman of the SPFN said: “I am delighted that we were able to attract this important meeting to Aberdeen. The UKCS Annual Meeting is the largest national meeting in our speciality followed by the SPFN annual meeting.
“This is the first time that the two societies will hold their annual meeting together and I am honored to chair such an important combined medical event.
I would like to thank VisitScotland for their support in securing this meeting for Aberdeen. In the organising and scientific committees, we are working relentlessly to ensure an excellent scientific program to showcase Aberdeen as the temple of evidence-based medicine in our specialty. We are also preparing an enjoyable social program for the delegates to experience a quality time.”
Brian Horsburgh, AECC’s Managing Director, commented: “There is a great wealth of outstanding medical and academic talent in the Region and we are very pleased to work closely with academics such as Dr Abdel-Fattah to bring esteemed events such as the UK Continence Society’s Annual Conference to the venue.
“The VisitScotland National Bid Fund is vital support for events looking to come to Aberdeen and Scotland and we are delighted that this Conference was successfully awarded funding through this initiative.”
