An Aberdeenshire butcher has teamed up with a local Deeside brewery to produce a limited-edition beer burger.
Butcher John Davidson has created the special burger using Deeside Brewery’s Swift American Pale Ale to coincide with the tipple’s inclusion in a summer beer festival hosted by discount retailer, Aldi.
The boozy burger will be on sale in his butcher shops, John Davidsons, which has outlets in Inverurie, Aberdeen city centre and Dobbies Garden World.
Mr Davidson said: “We used an innovative process to turn the ale into jelly-like pieces that can be mixed through the steak burgers to create a flavour that really packs a punch. The citrus notes from the ale provide a refreshing and zingy taste to the burger, which is ideal for a summer BBQ.”
Swift is a crisp dry and hoppy, American-style session ale. Using only pale malts, the citrus character of the American hops is brought to the front, giving it a long and flavourful finish.
Expected to be worth more than £200,000 to participating breweries, Aldi’s summer festival is set to build on the success of the retailer’s three previous festivals which generated substantial sales for small Scottish breweries and raised the profile of the industry as a whole.
Richard Holloway, Scottish managing director at Aldi, commented: “Creating a beer flavoured burger with John Davidsons in celebration of the beer festival, and just in time for BBQ season, has been great fun. This match is sure to whet the appetite of food and drink lovers across the Aberdeenshire area.”
