Temporary power giant Aggreko has won the contract to keep the lights and cameras running at the 2014 Ryder Cup at Gleneagles.
The Glasgow-based firm said it was probably the most high profile golf event it has supplied power to and hailed the fact the sporting calendar highlight will happen on its doorstep.
The firm will provide 17 MW with its “super-silent” TwinPack generators to power and cool around 40 temporary structures at the Gleneagles site.
The event, which is expected to reach a global audience of half a billion homes in 183 countries, will require 600 distribution boards to connect and feed power supplies around the course for broadcasters.
Angus Cockburn, Interim Chief Executive Officer, said: “Aggreko has vast experience of providing temporary power and temperature control solutions at golf tournaments. Doing so at the 2014 Ryder Cup, which is on our doorstep and is perhaps higher profile than any previous tournament is a great privilege.”
Edward Kitson, Ryder Cup Match Director, said: “Aggreko is yet another global business with firm Scottish roots to join us at the 2014 Ryder Cup.
“Their expertise and experience at previous sporting events, both at golf tournaments and others with international broadcast power requirements, will be invaluable.”
