Aberdeen company Imes Group said yesterday it had completed UK port and dockyard projects worth in the region of £1.4million.
The contracts, which included work in Southampton and Plymouth, helped boost year-on-year turnover by 14%, the engineering firm added.
At Southampton, Imes provided consultancy services relating to the design, production, installation and testing phases for four new ship-to-shore cranes.
At HM Naval Base, Plymouth, the north-east firm supported engineering provider Houlder in completing an overhaul of equipment on HMS Ocean, the Royal Navy’s largest warship.
Imes said the projects helped drive a rise in turnover to £8million in its 2013/14 trading year, from £7million previously.
Farrell Mossop, the company’s head of defence and marine, added: “We’ve had extremely positive feedback from clients about the standard of our work and level of expertise applied to all of the projects.
“For the Southampton cranes project we prepared the specification and carried out a design review and third-party inspections during manufacture, erection and commissioning. We also formally acted as the client’s representative in the final completion phase.
“The Royal Navy project involved engineering upgrades, inspection, repairing and replacing equipment, commissioning and testing, providing certification and delivering onsite management support.
“These projects and others have served to highlight the skills and experience of our people, and we’re confident of securing additional work on the back of these successes.”
Imes specialises in lifting and handling equipment through life integrity and support, which is achieved through project management, inspections and surveys, certification, bespoke manufacturing and high-end engineering services.
The group employs 70 people across seven sites, including one in the US.
