North builder Roy Homes has a new managing director, Scott Strachan, who has headed up the company’s timber frame division for the past three and a half years.
Mr Strachan takes over the role from Chris Barnett, who becomes chairman in a move aimed at freeing up time for his other land, property development and tourism-related business interests.
Roy Homes’ new MD has worked in joinery and construction in Scotland and England for nearly 30 years.
The 48-year-old said: “We’ve an excellent forward order book and our reputation is such that we’ve had recent inquiries from potential clients in England and the south of Scotland.
As head of the timber frame division, Mr Strachan helped grow its annual turnover to nearly £3million from house kit exports to countries as far as France and the Falklands.
Inverness-based Roy Homes currently turns over £10million, compared with £4million in 2009.
The company has about 20 staff and supports a further 80 jobs in the sub-contract chain.
Mr Barnett, who is the major shareholder in Roy Homes, said: “My other commitments see me spending large chunks of time away from the Highlands, including spells in France, so it made
sense to appoint an MD.
“Scott has been such a success in the timber division role that he was the obvious choice.
“He already knows the business, which is an advantage, and I’m very pleased to have him in charge, with my role now one of oversight.”
