A Inverness civil engineering contractor has secured a multi-million pound contract to assist in the development of a major road improvement for the Highways Agency in England.
Daviot Farms Limited (DFL) has been awarded the eight figure sum contract for earthworks associated with the motorway upgrade of the A1 between Leeming and Barton in Yorkshire.
The A1 is a strategically important north/south trunk road, linking London and the south of England with the north east and Scotland. The contract will see DFL partner with a Carillion Morgan Sindall joint venture over a three year period.
The upgrade will develop a 12-mile dual carriageway section into a three-lane motorway, as well as new local access roads, which will improve safety for traffic and surrounding communities. DFL will employ up to 100 project staff and operational personnel to support the contract.
DFL, which employees over 150, has considerable experience in the construction of major earthworks and infrastructure. The firm has been responsible for the construction of more than 30 miles of access tracks and earthworks for the Beauly Denny Overhead Transmission Line project for SSE/Balfour Beatty.
DFL director, LeeThomson, said: “This new contract on a vital transport artery is testament to DFL’s growing track record for delivering successful civil engineering projects and excellent health, safety and environmental record.
“The A1 Leeming to Barton contract provides three years of substantial secured business for DFL which, along with recent awards at Invergordon for McLaughlin & Harvey and Moy Wind Farm in support of Eneco and Morrison Construction, will provide the foundation for DFL to build with confidence in a rapidly recovering construction sector in the UK.
“We are focused on establishing a successful major projects delivery team for earthworks and infrastructure works throughout the UK, based upon talent acquisition and customer focused continuous improvement. This year is the beginning of a new chapter in our story.”
