Aberdeenshire seafood firm Sutherlands of Portsoy is selling its Gourmet’s Choice hot smoked salmon to fishmongers and retailers in France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Portugal and Luxembourg, thanks to a tie-up with north company FA027.
Named after the grid reference for a North Sea fishing area, Avoch-based FAO27 operates as the sales export department for local small-scale seafood processors and fishing boats.
It sells white-fish, shellfish and farmed salmon from across the north to retailers, wholesalers, fishmongers and independent stores across Europe.
The new partnership with Sutherlands, which has previously focused on markets in the Middle East, is delivering Gourmet’s Choice to mainland European customers for the first time.
A French retail buyer was so impressed by the salmon on a visit to Scotland arranged by FAO27 earlier this year that a decision was made to swiftly expand sales across Europe.
New packaging was developed and the first consignment was shipped from Aberdeen to France at the end of November.
Sutherlands managing director Maurice Sutherland said: “The response from the customers of FAO27 is extremely encouraging.
“I am delighted with the orders received and look forward to developing further sales of Sutherland of Portsoy branded seafood products.”
FAO27 managing director Anne Moseley said: “Our second consignment of Gourmet’s Choice smoked fish arrived in France last week and went straight to outlets across the country.
“Top quality products like this are in high demand across Europe and we are confident that exposure to new markets will raise the profile and sales of this prestigious brand.”
