An oil and gas firm’s £30,000 donation has unlocked the door to a new corporate hire revenue stream for Clan Cancer Support.
It has allowed the charity, which provides emotional and practical support to people affected by cancer across the north-east, Orkney and Shetland, to refurbish part of its headquarters at Clan House in Aberdeen.
The 644sq ft Westburn Room – used for events – has been transformed into a multifunctional space, with integrated technology that connects to other Clan venues.
The icing on the cake for us is the Westburn Room is now a very attractive city centre-based venue option for businesses.”
Duncan Peter, head of income generation, Clan Cancer Support.
Thanks to the donation from North Sea operator Apache, part of US-based APA Corporation, Clan has invested in a new catering area, audio-visual technology and whiteboards – making the space better equipped to host training days and external corporate events.
Duncan Peter, Clan’s head of income generation, said: “This is a significant donation from Apache.
“It’s allowed us to completely rethink and maximise the use of one of our key event spaces, creating benefits for our clients and unlocking a new income stream.
“The Westburn Room can now connect to our community bases, allowing those outwith Aberdeen to virtually access activities and sessions at Clan House, in addition to what’s available in their local areas.
“It also means our staff, who are based across a huge geographical location, have another way of communicating.”
‘Fantastic’ donation
Mr Peter added: “The icing on the cake for us is The Westburn Room is now a very attractive city centre-based venue option for businesses looking to hire an external flexible space and support a local charity.
“We’re incredibly grateful to Apache for this fantastic donation and look forward to welcoming businesses to our new facilities.”
Apache bond committee member Adele Howie said: “Apache is committed to building long-lasting relationships in our local communities and we are pleased to be supporting Clan in their vital work to support people living with cancer.
“The decision to donate to Clan was made by our bond committee, which manages funds generated by the company’s workforce through sales of confectionary and other items on our offshore platforms.”
Virtual access and room hire
The new equipment makes it possible for Clan’s community bases across the north-east, Shetland and Orkney to virtually access events and activities, including nutrition and wellbeing workshops and support sessions held in Aberdeen.
The Westburn Room can accommodate about 50 people and is available for hire throughout the week.
