A man who became infamous for describing products sold in his jewellers chain as “crap” will be speaking to a business audience in Aberdeen this month.
Gerald Ratner, now a motivational speaker who also runs an online jewellery enterprise, will tell his side of the story – and how he fought his way back – at a dinner hosted by Aberdeen & Grampian Chamber of Commerce (AGCC).
Mr Ratner has made a comeback since his infamous speech that cost him his job and his fortune. The speech took place at the Institute of Directors in 1991, where he slated his own company and the quality of his products, which ultimately cost his business to lose £500million.
He has since built up and sold on a health club business and continues to run online jewellery business geraldonline, as well as geraldonline in India.
The talk is one of the chamber’s “On Leadership” events and will take place on March 30.
