Whisky maker Edrington has appointed a new board member who will take a “leading role” in the development of the firm.
Paul Hyde, the company’s strategy and development director, joined the main board of the firm to lead the company’s regional “power brands” as well as oversee the Europe, Middle East and Africa region.
He has been with the Glasgow-based maker of whiskies – including The Famous Grouse, Highland Park and The Macallan – since 1997.
In a statement, Edrington described Mr Hyde as an “experienced member of the international executive” who will take “a leading role in the commercial development of Edrington”.
The firm added: “Paul’s appointment follows a period of sustained growth and expansion for the company. His new role reflects Edrington’s optimism about the future growth from this portfolio.”
Chief executive Ian Curle said “His wide range of experience will prove invaluable as Edrington focuses on its future sources of growth.”
In December the firm launched the development of a £100million new distillery and visitor centre for The Macallan site at Craigellachie on Speyside.
In the past 18 months, Edrington has expanded its international distribution network, launching wholly-owned companies Edrington Americas in New York and Edrington Asia Pacific in Singapore, Edrington Global Travel Retail and also new joint ventures: Edrington-Fix Middle East and Edrington Webb Travel Retail Americas, which represents the company in the US, Canada, Caribbean, Central & South America.
Edrington is headquartered in Glasgow and employs more than 2,200 people worldwide, with over 60% employed overseas.
