Scottish Provincial Press (SPP) is set to outsource parts of its production process to India with the loss of 12 jobs, the union has claimed.
The publisher of the Inverness Courier and the John O’Groat Journal will work with Express KCS based in Gugaon to do its pre-press work. Jobs affected will be lost between Wick, Golspie and Inverness at the end of July.
Wullie Wallace, Unite Regional Officer, said: “This is a tragic blow to these people who having given many years of service to the company to be treated this way.”
He added the move was “ironic at a time when SPP are supporting Highland Business Week in September supporting retaining and creating jobs in the Highlands but at the same time exporting our members jobs abroad.”
