An Aberdeen-based self storage firm has been granted planning permission to create a second site in the city on the grounds of a disused factory.
Simply Self Storage, which currently operates from a 75,000sq ft site in Mugiemoss Road, is investing £2.8million in the former AC Yule factory at West Tullos Industrial Estate in order to serve the south of Aberdeen.
City councillors have granted the firm full planning permission to transform the run-down building in Craigshaw Road into a modern self storage facility, with work expected to get underway within weeks.
Once complete, the premises, which currently occupy 25,000sq ft, will feature about 650 storage units in a variety of sizes across a ground floor and two mezzanines, giving a total size of around 70,000sq ft.
The building will also feature around 2,500sq ft of office space, which will be rented out as serviced office accommodation to clients.
Simply Self Storage managing director Kevin Shand said: “We have had consistently high occupation at Mugiemoss Road since we launched in 2011 and feel the time is right to expand to a second site to cater to both domestic and commercial customers in the south of the city.
“This new facility will feature all of the top-of-the-range security features of our current site, such as individually alarmed rooms, pin-code 24 hour access and 24-hour monitored CCTV to ensure our customers’ belongings remain safe and secure at all times.”
Simply Self Storage caters to clients from a range of backgrounds, including domestic customers who are about to move home or simply want to declutter to businesses looking to securely store documents or equipment.
The company also has space for start-up businesses to have a base without being tied into a long-term lease.
