Mike Naysmith from Cala Homes believes the council decision is a huge step forward for the project.

Cala Homes (North) yesterday unveiled a £10,000 community bursary programme as part of celebrations to mark the housebuilder’s 140th anniversary in Aberdeen.

The firm is inviting local charities, community groups and organisations to apply for cash to help fund a project which makes a vital difference in and around their local community.

A total of £10,000 is available, with Cala Homes (North) aiming to use the sum to support as many local worthy causes as possible.

Applicants must say how much they money would like and what it will be used for to be in with a chance of success.

The deadline for submitting application forms – available from sbrand@cala.co.uk – is Monday, September 14, with decisions being made by a judging panel from Cala.

Mike Naysmith, managing director at Cala Homes (North), part of Edinburgh-based Cala Group, said: “We’d like to give back to the fantastic communities in Aberdeen and the surrounding areas.

“We set up the community bursary because we feel that it is important for to play an active role in our local community and we look forward to welcoming applications from groups both large and small.

“I’d like to urge local organisations or charities looking to fund anything from new equipment, charitable events, workshops or classes that are beneficial to the local area to get in touch.”

Cala Group has its roots in the north-east, having started out in 1875 as the City of Aberdeen Land Association.
