Aberdeenshire firm Mackie’s of Scotland is making sure everything comes up roses for ice cream lovers at the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh (RBGE) by creating new floral flavours.
The Rothienorman dairy worked with the garden’s exclusive catering partner, Sodexo Prestige, to develop the new varieties of its award-winning ice-cream.
Specially produced rose, jasmine and lavender ices have gone on sale exclusively to visitors for the rest of the summer.
Mackie’s development director Kirstin Mackie said a 12-strong team was involved in developing the three new flavours at the family-run firm’s new product development kitchen at Westertown Farm.
She added: “We’re delighted these have worked out so well because the cream in ice-cream can actually mask such subtle flavours. Normally flavours like this might be more at home in a sorbet.
“These flavours also have a floral aroma, which is unusual for an ice-cream. We’re very proud of the results and really hope these flavours will help make an even more memorable summer experience for visitors to the Botanic Garden.”
Paul Mitchell, catering services director at RBGE for Sodexo Prestige, said: “These three gorgeous flavours really do capture the essence of what is so special about a beautiful summer garden.”
