An offshore chemical engineering firm which has been given royal recognition for its overseas sales success has backed the Press and Journal’s Apprentice 100 campaign.
Ellon-based Aubin Group will take on a trainee accounts assistant as part of our mission to create a century of new jobs for talented youngsters.
The company was presented with a Queen’s Award for international trade in August after boosting its income from exports by more than 100% in the last three years.
Aubin chief financial officer, Katy Gifford, said the award had already helped the firm ink more new deals.
Candidates need to make their interest known quickly, as finance manager Laura Birnie said she was keen to add to her fast-growing team as soon as possible.
The apprentice will mainly work with Aubin’s UK-based oil and gas industry clients, though they will have some dealings with its Houston and Dubai branches.
They will begin by undertaking a Level 2 Modern Apprenticeship in accounting with workplace assessment completed by Glasgow-based business training provider Kaplan.
Aubin, which has clients in 16 countries, is also prepared to help the apprentice attain an Association of Accounting Technicians qualification, and a diploma in accountancy.
Ms Birnie said: “We hope the candidate will look upon it as a great opportunity – it goes beyond what a lot of young people normally get.
“The programme gives young people an alternative to university. They go through the different levels and come out with the equivalent of a degree.”
Ms Gifford said: “Trainees are fundamental to what we do. We have a combination of senior experienced people and a significant number of people just starting out in their careers. It’s important to have a diversity of experience levels.”
Kerri Wright, a 24-year-old from Newmachar, has worked as a commercial administrator at Aubin for just over a year and is now undertaking Level 3 SVQ in business and administration.
Ms Wright is the main point of contact for customers and, as such, has worked hard to enhance her communication skills when dealing with clients and colleagues alike.
In future she wants to secure an accounts management position and take responsibility for some of Aubin’s more high-profile clients.
She said: “I’ve been really impressed by Aubin’s dedication to improving employees’ career progressions. You get a lot of support and that gives me confidence.”
