Cash-rich investors and entrepreneurs in the north-east are being urged to look south and get involved with the £1billion regeneration of Dundee.
Dundee Waterfront is a project being spearheaded by Dundee City Council, Scottish Enterprise and others and includes the £80million V&A Dundee museum of design which is due to open in 2018.
The organisers have launched a road show to highlight how it has attracted £600million of committed investment and to showcase the range of development opportunities now available in the waterfront.
The first of three events will take place in Aberdeen next month.
Dundee Waterfront will also disclose that it is receiving a “rising number” of enquiries from local, national and international investors and developers and that the team is in dialogue with businesses from a range of sectors including life sciences, renewables, professional, financial and back office, contact centres, creative industries, hospitality, tourism, food and drink.
Dundee Waterfront recently released 1 million sq ft of prime commercial space suitable for office, leisure, retail and residential development.
Mike Galloway, Director of City Development with Dundee City Council said: “We are delighted at the interest being shown in the business potential on offer in the waterfront area.
“We are keen to encourage sustainable, design-led development that reflects Dundee’s status as the UK’s first Unesco City of Design.
“Most of the land in the central Waterfront is owned by Dundee City Council, so we can work in partnership with investors and take a long-term holistic approach to development.
“We are also open to joint ventures so would encourage businesses and entrepreneurs to contact us with their concepts.”
The latest round of committed investments include the new Dundee railway station, hotel and retail development; new Hilton Hampton hotel; the H&H Properties residential development; new pedestrian bridge and office developments in the Seabraes creative site; creation of a marina and upgrade of lock gates, the expansion of Dundee Science Centre and funding of the V&A.
The lunch time event will be hosted by architects Halliday Fraser Munro on 5th November.
