Aberdeen Sports Village has confirmed the appointment a new chief executive.
Duncan Sinclair has joined the leisure centre operator after David Beattie became director of finance at Aberdeen University. Mr Beattie had led the development of Aberdeen Sports Village since its inception in 2006.
Mr Duncan was recruited from Sport Aberdeen, the charitable trust that runs sporting facilities on behalf of Aberdeen City Council, where he was operations director.
George Yule, Chairman of Aberdeen Sports Village, said: “Duncan has a solid background knowledge of managing and developing sports & leisure facilities, a positive personality and good communication and people skills, all of which will add further value to an already extremely successful organisation.”
University of Aberdeen Principal, Professor Sir Ian Diamond, said:
“Since opening in 2009, the Sports Village has gone from strength to strength, winning a number of national awards and proving hugely popular with our students and with the wider community.
“The addition of the Aquatics Centre in 2014 enhanced its reputation as one of the UK’s leading sports facilities, and I am looking forward to working with Duncan as we build on this impressive track record of success.”
Mr Sinclair added: “This is a very exciting position for me and I’m delighted to be here. I was already an enthusiastic customer and a big admirer of the scale and ambition of Aberdeen Sports Village so it’s great to now be a part of this. The sporting facilities that we have are truly world class and I understand and accept the responsibility to keep raising the bar that little bit higher, something I am very much looking forward to”
The facility is a joint venture by funding partners the University of Aberdeen, Aberdeen City Council and quango Sportscotland.
Meanwhile, house builder Cala Group has recruited a new non-executive chairman.
Manjit Wolstenholme, a former investment banker at Dresdner Kleinwort Wasserstein, takes over the role from Anthony Fry. The company said he resigned after a period of illness, having led the board since November 2010.
Ms Wolstenholme is currently chairman of Provident Financial and a non-executive director of student accommodation specialist, Unite Group.
