The four-star Meldrum House Country Hotel & Golf Course has been dubbed the “best hotel in Scotland” at an awards ceremony in Harrogate.
The privately-owned hotel which has features dating back 800 years, beat out Glenmorangie House in Tain and Rufflets Hotel, St Andrews, to win the regional gong at the Best Loved Hotels award ceremony.
The award recognises quality, service and food and comes on the back of winning the AA Hotel of the Year for Scotland in 2014/15 as well as being shortlisted for this Friday’s Aberdeen City and Shire Tourism Awards for Best Hotel.
Andy Burgess, chief executive, said:“We are delighted to win this prestigious award against some stiff competition. It’s testimony to the dedicated effort of the Meldrum House team and we are proud to be amongst the top flight of Scottish hotels.”
The hotel is in the midst of a £4.5million redevelopment that will create a new wing, as well as increase the number of bedrooms to 51.
Ready for June 2016, this will bring an additional requirement for 15 jobs at the property, taking the total number of staff employed at the hotel to over 100.
This is the first extension to the hotel since a complete renovation was carried out in 2009 and the new wing will span over 10,000 sq ft.
