Trade association Scotland Food and Drink is to work with groups around the country on an action plan to increase consumption of locally sourced produce.
The proposal followed the first meeting of 16 regional food bodies at a two-day summit in Inverness.
Among those taking part were Orkney Food and Drink, Outer Hebrides Tourism, Shetland Food and Drink, Taste Skye and Opportunity North East.
A key issue was the need for organisations to work together to achieve the aims of Scotland Food and Drink’s Ambition 2030 growth strategy, including the development of regional and island products.
Graham Young, industry development director at Scotland Food and Drink said: “Growing sales of regional food and drink is central to continuing the success of our industry and it was extremely positive to see the energy and appetite amongst the groups to be involved in these discussions.
“Clearly resource sits high on the agenda for those involved over the two days and there was a healthy debate on ways Scotland Food and Drink, Ambition 2030 and the new Scottish food tourism strategy could help in the long term.”
