Loganair finance director David Dishon has made himself redundant after launching a cost-cutting drive at the airline.
He will step down later this week, with group financial controller Beth Mackay taking on his duties in addition to her own after the two roles are merged.
Mr Dishon joined the team at Paisley-based Loganair just last year, having worked as finance and commercial director for the Serco-run Caledonian Sleeper rail services.
Before that he was route finance controller in Scotland for Network Rail.
A spokesman for Loganair, which flies to and from airports across the north and north-east, said: “The company went through a significant internal cost-saving drive during the latter part of last
year.
“As finance director, David Dishon identified that his own position was one that should rightly come under question and he himself volunteered to lead the cost-saving drive before then making his own position redundant at the end of March.
“David will leave Loganair . . . with our grateful thanks for his efforts during his time with us.”
Loganair, founded in 1962, has been flying solo since a longstanding franchise deal with Flybe came to an end last autumn.
It has just become the 50th member of Era, the trade association for the European aviation industry.
Managing director Jonathan Hinkles said Era membership was a “natural progression” for the airline after becoming a standalone brand.
He added: “We also recognise the value that being part of such an organisation brings us with regards to the fast-moving pace of regulatory changes on
aviation.”
Era director-general Montserrat Barriga said: “We provide an ideal forum for airlines to unite and address shared issues, and are very much looking forward to representing Loganair and continuing to champion our airlines’ interests before Europe’s major regulatory bodies.”
Meanwhile, Ryanair’s new service from Aberdeen to Valetta, Malta, takes off tomorrow.
It is the first new destination from Aberdeen International Airport (AIA) in 2018, with Tui’s route to Reus in Spain due to follow in May.
Tui will also be operating new charter flights to Rhodes and adding an extra weekly flight to Majorca in summer 2019.
