Regional airline Flybe is taking on rival Eastern Airways on flights between Aberdeen and East Midlands Airport.
Flybe said yesterday it would start winter schedule weekday flights on the route at the end of October.
Eastern has operated the route for more than a decade.
Flybe said its new service and its recently announced winter flights to Jersey vial Leeds Bradford and Southampton were “further indication” of its commitment to Scotland.
Chief commercial officer Paul Simmons added: “We are committed to increasing connectivity, both for business and leisure passengers, and are doing so by using a rigorous profitability analysis and utilising our strict route assessment model.”
Aberdeen International Airport managing director Carol Benzie said: “Flybe’s new route is a welcome addition and it will benefit the business community greatly to have this extra option for travel to East Midlands Airport.”
Flybe will operate a total of up to 248 flights a week on seven routes from Aberdeen as part of its 2014-15 winter schedule.
