Aberdeen is to play a key role in a drive to help companies grow by making better use of data.
The city will be one of three locations for the Data Lab, Scotland’s new data science innovation centre.
The computer and internet revolution means that companies are exposed to more information than ever before.
The Scottish Government said innovative and effective use of data could provide unique business insights for companies to drive their productivity and competitiveness and also help improve public services.
Recent research indicates the potential benefit of better data use could be £17billion to Scottish companies.
Formally launching Data Lab, Finance Secretary John Swinney said: “This new innovation centre will transform the nature of collaboration between industry, public sector and academic partners, providing new ways for business to benefit from the expertise within Scotland’s world-leading university sector.”
