The number of new homes built in Scotland is at its highest level for more than three years, new figures show.
A total of 4,583 were completed in the April-June period, the highest quarterly figure since 2010 and a 29% increase on the same three months last year, the Scottish Government said yesterday.
It means the government is closer to its target of delivering 20,000 homes for social rent by March 2016, with 80% already built.
Industry body Homes for Scotland (HfS) said the figures highlighted the impact of the Help to Buy (Scotland) shared equity scheme, for which funding ran out in July.
Sales have “significantly dropped off” since June, HfS chief executive Philip Hogg said, adding: “We, therefore, fear that overall activity levels for 2014 will be broadly flat – meaning Scotland will continue to fall well-behind the number of new homes required to meet its housing need.”
