The Aberdeen, Highlands and Islands branch of the Energy Institute has announced two key appointments.

Nigel Bradburn FEI was recently named as chairman of the branch, succeeding Hugh Rees CEng FEI chartered petroleum engineer, following his transfer with BP to a new role in Stavanger, Norway. Mr Bradburn will be supported by Laurie Mackay CEng FEI chartered energy engineer, who has been appointed as the EI’s new vice-chairman.

In addition to being a Fellow of the EI, Mr Bradburn is also a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) and an alumni of the University of Aberdeen, having completed his post-graduate HR studies there.

Following a successful career in the Royal Air Force, Mr Bradburn joined Marathon Oil, then Amerada Hess, assessing, developing and resourcing technical and operational support staff. He moved in to the executive search arena, working for the energy practice of a listed London-based company before setting up his own consultancy three years ago. He also sits on the boards of the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) in Aberdeen and the Scottish Oil Club.

Laurie Mackay has more than 35 years’ experience in the industry and is the UK manager of fabric maintenance for ConocoPhillips. He is a Fellow and Chartered Engineer of the EI, a Fellow and Chartered Manager of the Chartered Management Institute, holds an MSc in project management from Aberdeen University and an MSc in asset integrity management from Robert Gordon University.

He is currently undertaking an MBA in oil and gas management at RGU Business School.

Mr Mackay has been significantly involved in the EI for five years and, in particular, has been supporting the EI scientific and technical advisory committee’s technical work proposals for the development of industry guidance documents.

Kate Dinwiddy, professional development and training manager at the Energy Institute, said: “The Aberdeen, Highlands and Islands branch does an exceptional job at providing a professional and social network for energy professionals in the region with a busy events programme and extensive outreach work. I look forward to working with both Nigel and Laurie in the future.”
