Euroquiz 2022: How would you fare against top P6 quizzers?

Some of the brightest young minds will make their way to Edinburgh this weekend to compete in the national Euroquiz 2022 final.

The yearly quiz competition is organised by the Scottish European Educational Trust (SEET).

It tests pupils’ knowledge of the culture and history of our European neighbours.

For the last two years, the competition was held virtually. But this year, schools from all across Scotland who earned their place in the final will sit and compete in the Scottish Parliament debating chamber.

The national final is next Monday, June 13.

But until then, you can play along with our quiz below, which is made up of questions from this year’s regional heats.

Play Euroquiz 2022 at home

Questions range from geography and history to food and culture, and just about everything in between. In the actual competition, pupils face a language section as well.

Guest speakers present snippets of conversations in various languages. Competitors have to translate and answer questions about the conversations.

We spared you the foreign languages, but there’s still plenty of a challenge on offer. Last year’s Euroquiz winners earned a score of 98%. That means there isn’t much room for error on our 15-question sample.

Who gets to make the trip to Parliament?

Teams of four pupils from 29 of Scotland’s 32 local authorities are competing in the national final on Monday.

Seven north and north-east schools will represent their local authorities in Edinburgh:

• St Peter’s (Aberdeen City)
• Kemnay (Aberdeenshire)
• Rhu Primary School (Argyll & Bute)
• Rosehall (Highland)
• Greenwards (Moray)
• Dounby Community School (Orkney)
• Whiteness (Shetland)

Scottish Parliament normally hosts the national final. But because of pandemic restrictions, the last two Euroquiz finals were held virtually.

This year, MSPs will once again surrender their seats to pupils from around the country.

And Jane Halstead, SEET Director, said that the organisers are excited to welcome pupils back to Edinburgh.

“After a two-year hiatus from Euroquiz taking place in person, this year’s Euroquiz Final at the Scottish Parliament will be extra special.”

She added: “Who knows, perhaps some of our learners will be the next generation of Scottish parliamentary leaders.”

Deputy presiding officer Annabelle Ewing MSP will host the Euroquiz 2022 final.
