Plans to change the catchment boundaries between two city schools are to be put to the public.
Aberdeen City Council is holding a public consultation on the proposed boundary changes for the Greenbrae and Glashieburn school catchment areas in Bridge of Don.
The council plans to alter the current boundaries to move an area of land to the west of Dubford Road and one which includes Lochside Road and Lochside Drive from the Greenbrae School catchment area to that of Glashieburn School.
The new catchment areas would take effect from August 1, 2023.
Space running out at Greenbrae School
The statutory consultation began on Monday and ends on Thursday, December 22. As part of the consultation a public meeting will be held at Greenbrae School on Wednesday, November 30 at 7pm.
Members of the public are invited to express their views on the proposals by completing an online survey on the council’s website. A copy of the full proposal document can also be downloaded from the website.
The council states in the proposal document that the current school roll forecast indicates that the number of pupils attending Greenbrae School is increasing. It’s expected that there won’t be sufficient space at the school to accommodate all of these pupils in the future.
Meanwhile, forecasts indicate that the number of pupils who will be attending Glashieburn School in the future is decreasing. The school will therefore have excess unused capacity in future years.
‘Councils should build communities, not damage them’
Local residents reacted angrily to the proposed changes on the council’s Facebook page.
Nick Begg said: “Looking at the boundary maps, you want to take part of a community (Denmore Park) whose children all go to Greenbrae and have done for years, and move a portion of that community’s kids to Glashieburn?
“Councils should try to build communities, not damage them.”
And Wendy Mennie said: “Absolutely ridiculous that children from the housing estate next door to the school should be rezoned to a school 10 minutes away, crossing a very busy road.”

The council says that rezoning will give both schools a more sustainable school roll, benefitting children and staff alike.
It added that the proposals will ensure siblings can attend the same school.
