Aberdeen University has written with an offer of support to any students who are worried about Donald Trump’s controversial travel ban.
The US president has implemented an executive order, creating a 90-day suspension on nationals from Iran, Iraq, Syria, Sudan, Libya, Yemen and Somalia from entering America until April 27, a 120-day suspension of the country’s refugee programme, and a suspension of all Syrian refugees entering the US indefinitely.
Student and staff from the affected countries have been told by the university they will continue to have the institution’s support.
In a letter to all staff and students, Aberdeen University said: “We are continuing to follow the developments in the US, regarding the Executive Order issued by US President Donald Trump.
“We wish to provide an update for staff and students on the current situation regarding travel to the United States.
“We appreciate this is a difficult time for staff and students from these countries, and will continue to offer support.
“However, the majority of travellers between the US and the UK will not be affected and the suspension should not, in principle, affect UK citizens and passport holders.
“The university will monitor the situation and will continue to keep staff and students informed of any developments that may have an impact.”
