Robert Gordon University has fallen 11 places in the latest university rankings released by the Complete University Guide this week.
The university fell to 75th in the UK but remained in 9th position in Scotland.
The University of Aberdeen, meanwhile, climbed two places to 40th in the UK and stayed 7th in Scotland.
The education institutions were judged on entry standards, student satisfaction, research quality and graduate prospects.
They received the same rating for student satisfaction, but it was in the average number of UCAS points achieved by entrants where the University of Aberdeen came out on top.
It also had a small lead in research quality and graduate prospects.
Professor Ferdinand von Prondzynski, principal of RGU said: “University rankings are a snapshot at a particular point in time.
“RGU has just undergone a major and very successful restructuring, and is focusing strongly on some key areas of development which will enhance our reputation and extend our global reach over the coming period.
“I am pleased to see RGU placed in the top 20 UK universities for graduate prospects, which is testimony to our industry-focused teaching and engagement with employers.”
Professor Sir Ian Diamond, principal and vice-chancellor of the University of Aberdeen said: “The higher education sector in this country continues to be an incredibly competitive environment and to that end, it is encouraging to see we are holding our own, and indeed improving in the overall UK picture.
“We know that league tables such as this one play a big role in influencing prospective students, so to that end it is important that we perform well in them.
