Blackadder legend, Sir Tony Robinson, has a cunning plan to share stories of his life and childhood memories from the north-east in a talk later this month.
The TV star will deliver the lecture as part of Aberdeen University’s May festival.
Sir Tony, who used to visit the Granite City with his father, who made friends in the area when he was stationed in the north of Scotland during the Second World War, found fame as Baldrick, starring alonside Rowan Atkin in four series of Blackadder.
After the comedy series finished in 1989 he spent 20 years as host of Channel 4 show Time Team.
He landed the role due to programme makers wanting a host who could bring archaeology to life in an exciting and fun way in which an academic couldn’t.
Sir Tony already had a great interest in history and had taken courses on archaeology.
His visit to the festival comes as university researchers begin an archaeological dig at King’s College in Old Aberdeen.
The excavation is an investigation of the archaeology of the Grammar School which once stood beside the location of the King’s College Chapel.
A University of Aberdeen spokesman said: “We are looking forward to welcoming Tony Robinson to the university for the May Festival, where he will add his unique brand of enthusiasm to our archaeological excavations and engage audiences with tales of his varied career.
“Tony will be overseeing archaeological excavations taking place as part of the King’s Dig.
“Our festival team has once again ensured there is something for everyone in this year’s packed programme which spans science, music, literature, sport, food and drink and the environment.
“For Scotland’s Year of History, Heritage and Archaeology we have a fantastic array of events dedicated to the past.”
