People living in the Highlands who are thinking of a career change to primary teaching are being urged to consider a distance learning course at Aberdeen University.
Training for the Postgraduate Diploma in Primary Education DLITE (Distance Learning ITE) starts on January 20 next year and the deadline for applications is August 21.
Bill Alexander, director of Highland Council’s care and learning service, said: “This successful partnership that we have with the University of Aberdeen is an excellent way for people to take up teaching without having to leave their home area.
“The part-time distance learning can be done from home with a placement in the local area, enabling people to train without having to uproot their lives to study elsewhere.
“Like many other local authorities across Scotland we are facing challenges in recruiting enough people into teaching.
“The DLITE course is allowing us to ‘home-grow’ new teaching talent from within our local area. I encourage anyone with an interest in teaching to consider this fantastic opportunity.”
