A design student from Lewis has become one of three students to win a prestigious international design award in China.
Campbell Scanlan, from Mangersta, Uig currently studies at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design (DJCAD) at Dundee University alongside Tiernan Haugh and Jamie Spratt.
The trio have gone onto win the top award at the Shenzhen Design Award for Young Talents, an international UNESCO competition for their device, called the ‘Sociometer’, which highlights how many individuals are indulging in their phone rather than a pint.
The device, which has been installed into a pub, has the look of a seismograph and records the bandwidth data being used by phones on graph paper.
Their design was inspired by the 120-year-old Speedwell Bar, known locally as Mennies, to capture this social phenomenon.
