The Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen marked International Women’s Day yesterday by presenting honorary degrees to influential women.
Students and staff celebrated females who have made a “significant contribution to society”.
Cornerstone’s chief executive Edel Harris, Edinburgh University’s emeritus politics professor Alice Brown, and Sheila Brown, a professor of physics and astronomy at Glasgow University, were honoured at the ceremony.
Principal Ferdinand von Prondzynski said: “I am extremely pleased to have these inspiring women at RGU – they have all achieved so much in their chosen careers.”
Ms Harris has helmed the Cornerstone disability charity for 10 years, while Ms Brown served as the first Scottish Public Services Ombudsman.
Prof Rowan has headed Glasgow University’s Institute for Gravitational Research since 2009 and was awarded an MBE in 2011.
