A world-leading celebration of fiddle playing and traditional dancing is to grow even bigger thanks to a new funding boost.
The North Atlantic Fiddle Convention, which was founded by the Elphinstone Institute at Aberdeen University in 2001, has awarded £10,500 by EventScotland.
In previous years the showcase has been held in Nova Scotia, Ireland and Newfoundland, but will return to the north-east this July.
A programme of 150 concerts, workshops, ceilidhs and exhibitions will be held throughout the city centre and in Aberdeenshire.
The convention attracted 15,000 visitors the last time it was staged in the Granite City.
Festival director Carley Williams said: “We are delighted to once again be working with EventScotland to bring the North Atlantic Fiddle Convention to the north-east of Scotland, which is famous for its long-standing tradition of fiddle playing.
“NAFCo are looking forward to another packed programme of concerts, workshops, sessions, ceilidhs, talks and films, taking place in a variety of venues and spaces.”
The festival was previously awarded EventScotland funding in 2006 and 2010.
VisitScotland regional director Jo Robinson said: “It is important for Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire’s cultural identity that we host events such as this and that we offer our support to help make it as successful as it can be.”
