A 22-year-old female student was rescued by a coastguard rescue team and the RNLI lifeboat from Oban yesterday afternoon after falling whilst out climbing with a group and suffering a leg injury.
The incident occurred on the Isle of Kerrera with a call received by the Coastguard Operations Centre in Stornoway at 11.46am.
Oban coast rescue team was transported to the island alongside the lifeboat crew from Oban where they assessed the casualty’s injuries before assisting in transporting the Glasgow University student back to Oban and into the care of the Scottish Ambulance Service.
A coastguard spokeswoman said: “We received a call to assist in an incident on the Isle of Kerrera where a group of students from Glasgow University were climbing.
“One of the group fell down on some boulders and it was believed she had sustained a dislocation.
“We launched Oban lifeboat to assist to assess the casualty’s injuries before transporting the casualty back to the lifeboat station at Oban where she was passed into the care of a waiting ambulance.
“The lifeboat arrived back in Oban at 2.28pm.”
A Scottish Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: “We received a call from the Coastguard today to assist the Oban Lifeboat with a rescue.
“One ambulance was dispatched to the scene and one female patient in their 20s was conveyed to Lorn & Islands District General Hospital for further treatment.”
