A woman who started a leading north-east recruitment firm will discuss her entrepreneurial journey at a public lecture this week.
Judith Thorpe, who co-founded Thorpe Molloy Recruitment in Aberdeen in 1997, will offer insight gained in her business career at an event at Robert Gordon University today.
As a 24-year-old business graduate, Ms Thorpe left her job at a successful national firm to set up a specialist agency with partner Karen Molloy.
The pair have since been recognised for excellence in their field and Ms Thorpe has taken on mentoring roles in addition to working with the The Sandpiper Trust.
Ms Thorpe said: “As a young woman with no real management experience, getting funding was challenging. However, I was good at sales and business development and we quickly built up a loyal client base, achieving a turnover of £300,000 in our first year of trading.
“We’ve been in business over 22 years now and looking back, I would tell my younger self to prepare for success, setbacks and a life of continual learning.
“In support of Women’s Entrepreneurship week, I’m delighted to share the insights and professional experiences which have taught me the most throughout my career.”
Her lecture will be the latest in the university’s series of Innovation Masterclasses, led by successful guest speakers.
Members of the public can register to attend on the events pages of RGU’s website.
