The new chief executive of Aberdeen FC Community Trust has been revealed as Liz Bowie.
Ms Bowie joins the trust after 21 years at Aberdeen University, where she was director of development and alumni relations responsible for fundraising, alumni engagement, donor care, marketing and operational support.
She replaces Ally Prockter, who stepped down from the role of head of community last year.
Ms Bowie is no stranger to the trust, having worked with the charitable arm of Aberdeen FC during her time with the university and she is excited to be taking on a new challenge.
She said: “In the last 18 months the university started a partnership with AFC and the community trust and I’ve got to know a lot of people at the club, and I’m really excited by the work going on within the club and the community trust.
“I think after 21 years at the university, which was a really diverse place, the thought of impacting on local communities is really attractive and I think there is a huge potential there.”
Ms Bowie joins the trust five months after it was named best professional football club in the 2019 Uefa Grassroots Awards and believes the recognition AFCCT has received since its inception gives it the perfect platform for further growth.
She said: “The team are quite rightly proud of the awards they have won and if we’re able to share our experiences to a wider community then fantastic.
“Obviously there is lots for us to learn from other organisations and I’d like to see an environment where we can share with other trusts and foundations what they are doing for the greater good.
“We can have a bit of fun with it as well. We want to give the city, the club, our supporters, a sense of pride that we’re all in this together.
“I’m really privileged to be working with an amazing team, young, really enthusiastic and energetic. They’ve done incredible things over the first five years.
“But there is an opportunity now to look at a really diverse range of projects, look and see where our areas of focus could be and really take them to another level.”
