An Aberdeen university student has been disqualified from driving after running a red light and nearly knocking someone over.
Kamil Lebek committed the offence while driving a motorcycle on December 4 on Union Street at its junction with Broad Street.
Representing himself at Aberdeen Sheriff Court yesterday, the 22-year-old pleaded guilty to dangerous driving.
Fiscal depute, Alan Townsend told the court that it was dark and the road was wet at the time, with there being a “heavy pedestrian presence”.
He added: “The group of pedestrians began to cross the road and they were half way across the road when the motorcycle failed to comply with a red light and was two metres away from hitting the pedestrians.”
Police officers on the street saw this and did a u-turn in response.
When they arrived, they found that Lebek’s helmet was “excessively tinted”.
Sheriff Graham Buchanan fined him £850 and added a victim surplus charge of £40.
Lebek was also disqualified for 13 months.
