In recognition of her longstanding work on behalf of survivors of childhood sexual abuse, Sarah Nelson has been made an OBE.
Working with the Centre For Research On Families And Relationships (CRFR) at Edinburgh University, she has researched the mental health tolls these situations can take.
She has also worked as a professional advisor to the Scottish Government and Scottish Parliament.
Throughout her career she has collaborated with survivors and charities to produce reports, papers and chapters for books on the topic.
The Inverurie native, who now lives in Newport-on-Tay in Fife, said: “It is very much a Cinderella sector that doesn’t get much funding or publicity.
“Hopefully this might focus attention on the problem and the fact that we need to make it into a national public health issue.”
