For Ewan Roberts, university life was far from just sitting in lecture theatres and libraries.
For the 23-year-old combined his studies with charity fundraising, global travel and tasters of the world of work.
Yesterday, Mr Roberts, from Rothiemay, yesterday completed his bachelors degree in Geology and Petroleum Geology.
He took a two year break from his degree to gain professional skills and, on return, walked the Great Wall of China to raise money for charity and to
Mr Roberts, a former pupil at Keith Grammar School, described yesterday’s ceremony as “brilliant”.
He said: “It was good, I can’t believe it’s all over, it was so quick. Everyone was so friendly.”
Mr Roberts has already secured himself work in the oil and gas sector with a job at Corex in Dyce where he is a project coordinator and geological analyst.
After returning to his studies in 2012 following two years of work and industry placements, he joined the University’s fundraising committee to channel his passion for charity work.
He then managed to secure three weeks in China, raising £3000 for charity Childreach International for the trip.
He said: “I really wanted to walk the Great Wall of China and I’ve always been involved with charities.”
He was joined yesterday by his delighted parents, Evelyn and George Roberts, parents, and his auntie Hazel Ewen.
